Date: July 5, 2022 - by Harmony at Home Head Office Team Harmony at Home Head Office Team

Did you know that parents and carers can get up to £500 every 3 months (up to £2,000 a year) for each child to help with the cost of childcare? This goes up to £1,000 every 3 months if a child is disabled (so up to £4,000 a year).

To register for Tax-Free Childcare you’ll need to set up an online childcare account for your child at Apply For Tax Free Childcare

When you pay money into this account it will be topped up by 20% by the government. For example, for every £8 you pay into this account, the government will pay in £2 for you to use to pay your provider.

In order for your Nanny to be paid through the Tax Free Childcare scheme, they would need to be OFSTED registered and also register for a Tax Free Childcare account for providers, which they can do at: Sign up to Tax Free Childcare if you’re a Childcare Provider

There are some eligibility limitations.  Your child needs to be 11 or under – they stop being eligible the September after their 11th Birthday. Adopted children are eligible but foster children are not.

Finally if you are in receipt of certain benefits – Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Universal Credit or childcare vouchers you cannot claim Tax Free Childcare at the same time. Which scheme you’re better off with depends on your situation so be sure to use a childcare calculator to work out which type of support is best for you.
