Ski Across

This year, we are thrilled to announce our support for Ski Across, an incredible charity making a profound impact. In January 2025, Ski Across will make its annual trip, taking disabled individuals on a life-changing ski trip to the breathtaking slopes of Austria. As a network of businesses committed to fostering inclusivity and community, we couldn’t be prouder to support such an inspiring mission.

Operating under the charity, ‘Across’, Ski Across travels on a purpose-built ‘Jumbulance bus’ to take individuals abroad, who may otherwise be unable to fly or travel on their own. For them, this trip is more than a holiday, it’s a chance to gain confidence, independence and a renewed sense of possibility. The bus is fully equipped with all the facilities for safe and comfortable long distance travel for those with serious disabilities. In Austria, the group stays in a specially adapted hotel, with fully accessible rooms, equipped with hoists, wet rooms, lower worktops and level floors across the hotel. When hitting the slopes, individuals will use a variety of equipment, including mono-skis and bi-skis, depending on the persons capabilities, aided by expert sit ski instructors.

As everyone knows, skiing is expensive. Add in the costs of sit ski hire, and specialist 1-1 instructors, and the costs are out of reach for the majority of people. Ski Across relies on donations and community support to make these trips possible. Through fundraising and general support from the public and businesses, Ski Across are able to keep the trip affordable for their disabled participants. Whether it’s funding adaptive equipment, supporting travel costs, or even coming along as a helper, every contribution goes directly toward giving someone the chance to experience the magic of skiing. This trip would not be possible without the help and support of volunteers. With a variety of ski helpers and carers, they ensure the skiers safety and wellbeing throughout the week. The group are still on the hunt for ski helpers and carers, ahead of January’s trip. As a carer, support is provided off the slopes, to wrestle skiers into their ski suits, or fetch that much needed cup of hot chocolate after a chilly day on the slopes. Ski helpers will be by the skiers side, providing support and words of encouragement throughout the day!
