Finding Nannies and Household staff in Berkshire and Oxfordshire

A warm and welcoming family of five based on a private estate in West Berkshire are seeking an experienced Housekeeper/Nanny to join their household team and help ensure the smooth running of their busy family home.

The household already has a Head Housekeeper, and this position will work alongside them to provide consistent housekeeping cover across the week, including weekends, as well as childcare support for the family’s children.

This is a varied, hands-on role combining high-standard housekeeping with childcare. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a clean, organised and well-presented home, alongside providing attentive, engaging and reliable care for the children. The role would suit someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work and is confident balancing household responsibilities with family support.

The family are looking for someone who is proactive, organised, reliable and discreet, with a flexible, can-do attitude and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the Head Housekeeper and wider household team.

Previous experience in a private household or high-end property would be advantageous, alongside experience caring for children. A full, clean driving licence and confidence driving children to school or activities are essential.

Duties and Responsibilities

Housekeeping

• Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and presentation throughout the property.
• Carrying out general housekeeping, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping and cleaning bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and living areas.
• Managing household laundry and ironing, including washing, folding and putting away clothing, bed linen and towels.
• Changing beds and ensuring bedrooms are clean, tidy and well presented.
• Keeping household cupboards, wardrobes, linen rooms and storage areas organised.
• Carrying out deeper and more specialised cleaning when required, including caring for delicate furnishings and valuable household items.
• Monitoring household essentials and communicating when cleaning products, toiletries or other supplies need replenishing.
• Ensuring cleaning equipment and supplies are stored correctly.
• Preparing the home for guests and helping ensure the property is well presented when the family are entertaining.
• Assisting with cleaning areas outside the main house when required.
• Reporting maintenance issues, damage or repairs to the appropriate person.
• Working closely with the Head Housekeeper to maintain consistent standards and ensure continuity across the week.

Childcare and Family Support

• Providing attentive, responsible and engaging care for the family’s children.
• Supporting the children’s after-school routine, including school or activity collections, where required.
• Preparing children’s meals and snacks and helping with their evening routine.
• Organising age-appropriate activities and supporting play, homework and other daily activities.
• Providing full-day childcare during agreed school-holiday periods, as required.
• Helping ensure the children’s spaces, belongings and play areas are clean, tidy and organised.
• Communicating effectively with the parents regarding the children’s routines, activities and any relevant updates.
• Assisting with the family’s pets and providing other reasonable household support as needed.

The Ideal Candidate Will

• Have previous housekeeping experience, ideally within a private household or high-net-worth family environment.
• Be confident with all aspects of general housekeeping, laundry and ironing.
• Have previous childcare or nannying experience; experience in a combined Nanny/Housekeeper role would be advantageous.
• Genuinely enjoy working with children and be confident providing attentive, age-appropriate care.
• Hold a full, clean driving licence and be a confident driver.
• Be organised, proactive and able to work independently using their own initiative.
• Be reliable, trustworthy and highly discreet.
• Have excellent attention to detail and take pride in maintaining high standards.
• Be flexible and comfortable adapting to the changing needs of a busy family home.
• Have a positive, can-do attitude and be happy to work collaboratively as part of the household team.

• Working pattern: Saturday, Sunday and Monday, plus two shorter (5 hour) weekday shifts.
