A warm, professional family in the village of Penn, Buckinghamshire is looking for an experienced, caring and proactive nanny to start at the beginning of January 2027. This is a long-term, permanent position at the heart of family life.
The family has a happy two-year-old boy, and a second baby boy is due in February 2027. Mum and Dad are both professionals who often work from home, though they will be shut away in their offices for most of the day.
Usual hours are Monday to Thursday, 07.00–19.00, and Friday, 07.30–12.30 (53 hours per week). Most weeks will follow that pattern, but some flexibility is important. Now and then, by prior arrangement, the family may need to reshape the week – typically a slightly later start, an earlier finish or a Friday morning off, with the time banked to cover evening babysitting. Additional hours that have not been banked in this way will be paid as overtime. Willingness to do occasional overnights, which are paid, is also essential – in practice a few nights, a few times a year, always agreed in advance.
For the first few weeks you will have sole charge of the two-year-old. Once the baby arrives, Mum will be on maternity leave until around August 2027 and the role becomes shared care: sometimes you will have both children, sometimes Mum will take one of them for one-to-one time, and sometimes you will all do things together. From around August 2027, as Mum goes back to work, you will have sole charge of both boys.
During a typical day, the family want their children to have a balanced, engaging routine with plenty of learning, exploration and play: singing, reading, puzzles, arts and crafts, imaginative play, playdates and lots of time outdoors. The two-year-old currently goes to a number of local groups – music, forest school and swimming among them – and the family would like him to keep these up and move on to others as he gets older. The family are keen for the children to socialise, so arranging playdates with children of a similar age will be a regular part of the week. As he gets older, the family would like you to build in age-appropriate learning in line with what he would be doing at nursery or pre-school – numbers, letters, early reading and writing and general school readiness. The baby will join suitable baby groups in due course. The house is rural with plenty of land to explore, and the family would like the children to spend as much time as possible in the fresh air. There is a swimming pool, so experience swimming with young children would be a bonus, and a tennis court, both of which you are welcome to use with the children and in your own time.
You will be responsible for planning, preparing and clearing up the children’s meals and snacks. The family want their son to keep eating a varied, nutritious diet, home-cooked, and would like you to batch-cook and freeze portions for him – and for the baby once he starts weaning – so there is always a supply for the parents to use at weekends.
The family employ a cleaner, so the role is focused on childcare. Nursery duties include keeping the children’s bedrooms, bathroom and playroom clean, tidy and organised, and doing the children’s laundry. A proactive approach to keeping the household running smoothly is appreciated: emptying the dishwasher, keeping shared spaces tidy, managing the online grocery shop, running the occasional errand and sometimes preparing a meal kit (Gousto or similar) for the parents.
The ideal candidate will be:
• Warm, energetic, reliable, organised and fun, with a genuine interest in young children’s development
• Confident, careful driver with a clean licence – a car is provided for duty use
• Happy to work collaboratively with the parents and adapt as the family’s needs change
• Willing to do occasional overnight stays (a few nights, a few times a year, agreed in advance)
